Getting better on ICT skills

In my first PW for ECO II I was supposed to evaluate two web sites. One in terms of its potential usefulness as resource for materials design; and the other one, in terms of its potential usefulness in the classroom. In order to do so, I followed a very useful criteria which helped me to focus on the purposes of each web site, its authority and objectivity, how  appropriate it was, who was responsible for it, its clarity and accessibility, among others.

Since it was the first time that I do this type of analysis, I couldn’t avoid feeling a bit lost. Thankfully, the criteria I used was a valuable instrument which guided me to find the information I needed among the mass of sites and sources, and to evaluate that information as well.

This experience has undoubtedly improved my literacy skills and digital competences since whenever I visit a new website I immediately look for the name of the person or the company in charge of it, and if the website is updated or not. I also started to pay attention to the websites’ design, its colours, etc.

As a future English Teacher, I consider the acquisition of ICT skills of great importance as students at my class will be all “digital natives”, and in order to be fully functional citizens in our 21st Century world, they need digital skills.
